Background
Our team undertook a project to digitize the nursing home admission process to alleviate the stress and inefficiencies associated with traditional, paper-based onboarding. As the user experience designer, I focused on creating an intuitive, responsive interface optimized for tablet use, recognizing that much of the work occurred on these devices. The goal was to streamline admissions, reduce errors, and allow family members to spend more time with their loved ones. Nursing homes often face challenges such as limited staffing, inconsistent data handling, and lengthy administrative processes, all of which this project aimed to address.
Challenge
Manual, paper-based admissions were time-consuming, error-prone, and frustrating for both staff and families. The lack of a centralized system made it difficult to track and manage resident information efficiently, increasing administrative burden and delaying the onboarding process. The paperwork itself was lengthy and filled with complex legal clauses, making it challenging for family members to understand key information and requirements during the stressful admission process.
Solution
To address these challenges, our team developed a digital platform to manage the nursing home admission process. I focused on designing an intuitive and responsive user experience, ensuring the interface was optimized for tablets. This platform enabled the seamless collection and management of resident information, reducing reliance on physical paperwork. We also implemented clear, user-friendly explanations of complex legal clauses, making it easier for family members to understand the admission process. By digitizing the process, we expedited admissions, minimized errors, improved data accessibility, and enhanced the experience for both staff and families.
